Capacitor is an open-source native runtime for building Web Native apps. It allows developers to create cross-platform iOS, Android, and Progressive Web Apps with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Unlike traditional hybrid frameworks, Capacitor treats the web layer as the core application while providing full access to native platform SDKs through plugins. It was created by the Ionic team as a modern alternative to Cordova with better native integration and tooling.
